Electronic pioneer FRANK TOVEY, aka FAD GADGET has died.

Tovey, who was regarded alongside Cabaret Voltaire and Human League as one of the finest exponents of the early '80s electronic dance movement in the UK, is thought to have died at his home on April 3.

A spokesperson for Tovey's record label, Mute, confirmed the news to NME.COM, but is currently unable to confirm any of the details surrounding his death. A statement will be forthcoming later today (April 5).

Tovey's career was still active at the time of his passing. In more recent years he had been releasing records under his own name for Mute, and was working on new material.

He was also still touring, securing the support slot on labelmates Depeche Mode's recent European tour.
